A management leader by experience—not by industry label.

My career spans bar and restaurant operations, logistics and fleet management, medical manufacturing and sales, theme parks and waterparks, resorts, and large-scale retail destinations. I bring more than three decades in attractions and a practical management perspective across industries.

My connection to the attractions industry began as a young Eagle Scout serving as a lifeguard at Wildcat Hollow Boy Scout camp in western Kentucky. In 1994, I joined Kentucky Kingdom in Cash Control, moved into Sales and Marketing, and advanced to Assistant General Manager. I was part of the park's transformation and rebranding as a Six Flags property in 1999.

At Six Flags, I held park-level management roles, including at SplashTown near Houston, returned to Kentucky Kingdom as Marketing Director, and went on to become Corporate Director of Marketing and Entertainment. Later, I returned to Six Flags as Vice President of Water Park Operations and Park President of Frontier City, focusing on revenue, safety, and guest experience.

In 2008, I joined EMAAR's work to open The Dubai Mall, leading teams in one of the world's largest retail destinations. Back in the United States, I served as General Manager at Hurricane Alley Waterpark, Schlitterbahn Waterparks and Resorts, and Island H2O Water Park. At Island H2O, my team led the park's reopening after COVID-19 shutdowns; the original biography identifies it as the first waterpark in the United States to reopen.

My experience also includes serving as Vice President of Sales for Eaton Medial Group, leading a logistics company operating a fleet of vehicles, working in bar and restaurant operations, leading two resorts, and operating one of the four core pillars at Margaritaville Resort Orlando. These are different businesses, but each depends on capable teams, sound decisions, customer focus, disciplined operations, and financial accountability.

I've contributed to industry committees, spoken at WWA and IAAPA events, and participated in panels and podcasts. My approach remains direct, collaborative, and grounded in the realities of operating a business: set direction, listen carefully, establish accountability, and give people the clarity and support they need to perform.

Through J Kunau Enterprises, founded in 2024, I help owners, executives, and organizations address business challenges through revenue generation, operational impact, crisis management, and EBITDA improvement—without limiting the work to one industry.

HOW I LEAD

Keep the goals visible.
Follow through.

Make the action plan. Stick to the plan—until you don't. Discipline matters, but so does paying attention: measure the results, listen to the people doing the work, and change course when the facts demand it.

01

See the whole business

Connect the customer experience, team capabilities, operating model, commercial strategy, and financial outcomes.

02

Respect the people doing the work

Listen to the team closest to the challenge, define expectations, and make accountability useful—not performative.

03

Turn ideas into action

Translate strategy into priorities, ownership, measures, and a realistic path to execution.
